Our Practice offers treatments specialising in Cranial Osteopathy for adults, children and babies. We also offer FSM treatments.

Cranial osteopathy
A very gentle, safe and effective form of osteopathy, and as such, is suitable for all ages. Although the name implies only the head is treated, any part of the body can be treated this way. It works on the principle that there is a very subtle movement between the cranial bones, bones of the body and circulation, and restriction in this movement may cause problems. Diagnosis is made by the osteopath using a highly developed sense of touch to feel for subtle restrictions in the body. Cranial osteopathy can be used to treat new and old injuries. The latter in particular can be a predisposing factor to many back problems.

Daily living
During daily activities the body can be subjected to a lot of strain over time, such as working at a computer/desk, doing repetitive movements, sporting activities or looking after others young or old. Pain arising out of the blue is a common occurrence and the symptoms usually have a mechanical aspect to them the Osteopath can recognise and is an expert in treating. Our team can provide you with a comprehensive assessment, tailored treatment, and advice, to get you back to peak health.

Pregnancy
During pregnancy the mother’s body goes through enormous changes to support the growth of her baby. Apart from the changes in mechanical stresses, the mother also goes through hormonal changes, which affects tissues such as ligaments, and this in turn, can cause pain. Osteopathy is very gentle and safe way to help with problems like low back pain, upper back and neck pain, symphysis pubis dysfunction, and sciatica.

Babies and Children
Cranial osteopathy is a popular form of treatment for babies and younger children, as it is very gentle, non-invasive and safe. Often problems caused by the birthing process, where the baby experiences great pressure during delivery can be helped by osteopathy. Rapid birth, forceps, long labour, caesarean section, maternal fibroids, or twin births can influence the forces affecting the baby during birth. These forces can cause restrictions, and treatment gently eases these. As children become older both cranial and manual osteopathic techniques are appropriate.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM)
FSM is an emerging method for treatment that uses low level electrical paired frequencies through either moistened towels or electrical pads similar to those used on a TENS machine. It is being used and has been shown to be a reproduceable method of treatment with very few side effects. Katherine Bagley is the Osteopath who is trained in this method of treatment at the practice and has found it very effective in the practice for:
-
Sciatic pain and nerve inflammation
-
Helping to reduce the symptoms of fibromyalgia
-
Supporting those with hypermobility issues
-
Helping to speed up healing after injury
-
Scar tissue softening and reduction
